FAQ: Dental Veneer

What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are very thin, custom made, shells of tooth colored porcelain that are placed on the front of teeth to change their color, shape, position, and size. Porcelain veneers reflect light much like natural teeth do, and are stain resistant. Veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed from the teeth they are placed on. Porcelain veneers can often be placed on your teeth in two visits to the dentist office. You can discuss what cosmetic dentistry choice is right for you with Dr. Reeve during your initial consultation.

What do porcelain veneers correct?

  • Gaps
  • Chipped Teeth
  • Cracked Teeth
  • Worn Teeth
  • Misshaped or disfigured Teeth
  • Discolored Teeth

How do I get porcelain veneers?

Dr. Reeve will assess your situation and listen to your concerns, needs and wants with you. He will discuss all the appropriate options for cosmetic solutions and will answer your questions. Together, you will decide if porcelain veneers are the correct choice for you.
If porcelain veneers are selected, then Dr. Reeve will remove part of the tooth enamel about equal to the thickness of the new veneer. Then a mold will be made of your teeth so that the veneers will fit perfectly on your tooth.

The custom veneers will arrive in two to three weeks. Dr. Reeve will attach the veneers to your teeth using special cement that bonds the veneer to your tooth. A follow-up visit will be scheduled in to see how your gums are adapting to the new veneers.

What are the advantages of porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are an excellent option for anyone that wants to correct their smile; they are much easier and require less time and commitment than traditional orthodontics. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and the color of the porcelain can be selected so that darker teeth will appear whiter. Omaha's Dr. Reeve will determine how to precisely select the size, color, and shape of the porcelain veneers so you will have a smile that you will love.

Because porcelain veneers often require more than one visit to the dentist office and they require expert laboratory artistry, they are not inexpensive.

Dr. Reeve has extensive training at the Las Vegas Institute (as well as being a clinical instructor there). He will ensure that you receive the proportional size, color, and shape that is right for you and employs only the very best of dental laboratories to deliver your dream smile.

Dr. Reeve also has customized financing options for patients that can allow them to obtain the perfect smile that they have always wanted.

How long do porcelain veneers last?
This is a very hard question to answer as good care and maintenance are critical to longevity. Dr. Reeve has several cases that are over 20 years old. One of his earliest porcelain veneer patients has referred her son for his porcelain veneer smile makeover. Dr. Reeve has had very little problems with porcelain veneers in terms of debonding or breakage. Porcelain veneers should last a very long time.

Are there any drawbacks to porcelain veneers?
There are very few drawbacks to porcelain veneers. The improvement of self esteem and how others see you is invaluable. Removal of tooth structure is another concern as most veneer procedures are not reversible - you will always need veneers, however, remember what your smile looks like without them!

The longevity of the veneers is unknown, but in comparison to most of our purchases like a car, vacation, etc., this is an investment that will not lose its value. As far as discomfort, most of our patients do very well; occasionally there will be some temporary cold sensitivity which subsides quickly.

Lumineer

Unlike traditional veneers, porcelain Lumineers can be created as thin as a contact lens. This allows us to apply Lumineers directly to teeth without removing sensitive tooth structure.

Lumineers are the no pain, lots of gain, cosmetic solution.

Lumineers are the way to a smile that is permanently whiter and perfectly aligned. Dr. Reeve applies these porcelain veneers to teeth without grinding or shaving, transforming your teeth into a naturally beautiful smile that’s perfect for you. Lumineers can be placed over top of existing crown or bridgework without replacing existing dentistry.

Contact lens-thin Lumineers are placed over existing teeth without having to remove tooth structure (unlike traditional veneers).

Lumineers are a great option for rejuvenating your smile. We dont need to do any preparation on the old teeth and its a simple way to give you the beautiful smile you deserve. And best of all, there are no needles involved! ’t
